AI Policy

This policy explains how Money Fit may use artificial intelligence to support public content and related editorial work while preserving human accountability, accuracy, privacy, and professional judgment.

Money Fit is a service of Debt Reduction Services, Inc., a nonprofit 501(c)(3) credit counseling organization. Money Fit remains responsible for the public information it publishes, including content developed with assistance from artificial-intelligence tools.

Our commitments at a glance

  • AI may assist editorial work but does not decide what Money Fit publishes.
  • People direct, verify, edit, and approve public content.
  • Material claims and sources are checked before publication.
  • Sensitive consumer information is not appropriate input for public AI tools.

1. Purpose and scope

Artificial intelligence can assist with editorial research, organization, drafting, editing, and presentation. It can also produce inaccurate, incomplete, biased, outdated, or misleading information. This policy establishes expectations for AI-assisted work involving Money Fit's public website content and educational materials.

Using an AI tool does not transfer responsibility to the tool or its provider. Money Fit remains accountable for reviewing the work, protecting consumer information, and deciding what is appropriate to publish.

This policy does not authorize AI to replace a qualified counselor or serve as the sole basis for individualized counseling recommendations.

2. How Money Fit may use AI

Money Fit may use artificial-intelligence tools to assist people performing public content and educational work. Appropriate uses may include:

  • Research support Organizing questions, identifying issues for review, locating potential sources, and comparing information.
  • Drafting and editing Developing outlines, improving readability, checking consistency, and assisting with formatting or presentation.
  • Educational organization Helping structure general financial education, explanations, course materials, tools, and resource pages.
  • Quality support Identifying possible gaps, conflicting language, accessibility concerns, or facts requiring human verification.

AI-generated output is treated as working material. It is not considered accurate merely because it is detailed, confident, or accompanied by apparent citations.

3. Human review and accountability

People remain responsible for defining the assignment, evaluating the underlying information, considering consumer impact, and approving the finished work. AI may assist the process; it does not independently determine what Money Fit publishes.

  1. Direct A person defines the question, audience, purpose, information boundaries, and level of review required.
  2. Verify A person checks material claims, sources, limitations, terminology, privacy considerations, and context.
  3. Approve A person edits the work and decides whether it is accurate, appropriate, and ready for publication.

Public content is not published solely because an AI tool produced or recommended it. Human review remains required for the final content and its presentation.

4. Accuracy, sources, and corrections

AI tools may combine reliable information with errors or unsupported conclusions. Material claims must be checked against appropriate sources before they are relied upon or published.

  • Primary sources: Laws, regulations, government programs, licensing information, and institutional policies should be checked against authoritative sources when reasonably available.
  • Source integrity: Citations, quotations, statistics, and links suggested by AI must be confirmed rather than assumed to exist or support the claim.
  • Changing information: Time-sensitive rules, creditor practices, program details, and third-party information should be reviewed for current context.
  • Appropriate limitations: Estimates, examples, common experiences, and possible outcomes must not be presented as guarantees.
  • Corrections: Confirmed errors should be corrected through the process described in our Editorial Standards and Ethics .

5. Privacy and consumer information

AI-assisted editorial work remains subject to Money Fit's privacy and information-handling requirements. Public, non-sensitive information should be used whenever it is sufficient for the task.

  • Money Fit does not permit sensitive consumer information to be entered into publicly available generative-AI tools for editorial work.
  • Only information reasonably necessary for the public content task should be used.
  • AI tools must not be used in editorial work to infer sensitive personal characteristics or create unsupported judgments about an individual.
  • AI-assisted content must not expose private consumer, client, or employee information.
  • Money Fit's broader information practices are explained in our Privacy Policy.

6. Uses Money Fit does not permit

Money Fit does not permit artificial intelligence to be used in ways that could mislead consumers, replace required human judgment, compromise private information, or misrepresent the organization and its services.

  • Publishing unreviewed AI output as verified Money Fit information.
  • Using AI as the sole basis for individualized counseling recommendations.
  • Guaranteeing savings, interest-rate reductions, creditor participation, enrollment, completion time, credit effects, or other consumer outcomes.
  • Creating fabricated testimonials, credentials, sources, regulatory claims, or consumer experiences.
  • Representing Money Fit as a lender, debt settlement company, or credit repair company.
  • Using AI-generated statements as proof of licensing, accreditation, nonprofit status, or another material credential.
  • Publishing or exposing sensitive personal information through AI-assisted content.

7. Questions and corrections

Contact Money Fit if you have a question about this policy or believe AI-assisted Money Fit content is inaccurate, unclear, improperly sourced, or inconsistent with these commitments. Please include the page address and a description of the concern when possible.
